One of California’s oldest public school districts, the Benicia Unified School District dates back to 1849 with the founding of its first public school, and its school board was established in 1850. Today the district consists of one high school, one middle school, four elementary schools, and an alternative high school. The district enrolls approximately 5,000 students annually.
The Benicia Education Foundation was created in 1981 to provide community-based support for Benicia public schools in pursuit of excellence in education, innovation in the classroom and superior learning opportunities for all students. The Foundation has a decades-long record of supporting a variety of educational and extracurricular initiatives and programs in Benicia public schools.
Ascend Partners Group is working with both District and Foundation leadership to conduct a comprehensive fund development capacity assessment (including grants, sponsorships, and earned income opportunities as well as traditional fundraising efforts) and develop a multi-year fund development plan for the District and the Foundation. APG is also providing district personnel, foundation board members, and volunteers with training in fundraising practices, solicitation strategies, event planning/management, and marketing and messaging techniques.
