Louder doesn’t always equal better

One of the great challenges for underserved populations in our country is of course access to higher education, which can be the determining factor in escaping poverty. For example, only 5% of Native Americans living on reservations can afford to go to college.

There’s an ad campaign that’s been running for awhile now seeking to entice donors to give to the American Indian College Fund.

Here’s one of the spots from the campaign:

By contrast, consider this simple, brief spot from the United Negro College Fund, which features quite a different approach:

My guess is most people viewing these two ads would be more drawn to the second one than the first. When it comes to inspiring others to give, you don’t rise above the noise simply by being louder than anyone else.
