Ascend Partners Group is pleased to announce two significant moves among its leadership, as two of the firm’s founding partners embark on new chapters in their respective careers.
After two years of consultation with APG client North County Health Services, our co-founder Rich Talmo has accepted a full-time role as that organization’s Chief Philanthropy Officer. Talmo has advised North County Health Services on staffing, fundraising, campaign planning, and more throughout APG’s engagement with the healthcare organization, and now that work will continue in earnest as Talmo moves into a leadership role with the agency. Talmo, who retired as Executive Director of the Palomar College Foundation in 2017, is a familiar face in the North San Diego community and a former President of the San Marcos Rotary. While he returns full-time to advancing the well-being of his community, he remains in an advisory capacity with Ascend Partners Group.Concurrently, Dr. Paul Lanning, also an APG co-founder, is returning to the firm after a four-year stint as Vice President for University Advancement and CEO of the Tower Foundation at San José State University, where he oversaw an organization of 80 staff and a budget of $8 million per year. In Lanning’s tenure at SJSU the university established new highs in fundraising success, exceeding $30 million per year for three consecutive years for the first time ever, earning a 2018 CASE Educational Fundraising Award, and raising more than $120 million overall. Lanning also led award-winning marketing and branding initiatives, co-founded SJSU’s Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change with Dr. Harry Edwards, and envisioned and executed numerous regionally and nationally newsworthy events and programs.
Ascend Partners Group was founded by Talmo, Lanning and Richard Mahan in 2011 as a full-service consulting firm advising non-profit organizations and leaders. Clients over its eight years of operation have included educational institutions, social service organizations, and historic estates and museums. Clients range from national and international entities to local grassroots agencies.
